We feel that the decline in critical thinking skills in recent years not only caused the parallel decline in book readers, but the decline in book readers exacerbated the decline in critical thinking. The two are a self-perpetuating cycle.

And so BookSunday was created to break that cycle. The simple goal is to get more books into the hands of more people.

The first step is to popularize the holiday created by George and Mary Jane Cochran for their own family in the 1950’s. Our goal is to count the number of people celebrating BookSunday in the millions within five years.

The second step is to raise funds and develop a program that distributes books at no cost to families that otherwise couldn’t afford to participate in BookSunday.

Again, more books into the hands of more people – and income level should not be a barrier.
